The marketing gurus at Simon & Schuster suggested that I add a playlist to this site. Duh. How did I not think of this myself? After all, I might be a huge fan of Radiohead, but not everybody’s heard “Creep”, the song that inspired my book. I talk a lot about music and how it fuels my writing, so yeah… of course there should be a playlist.
Thanks to Grooveshark, I now have a playlist in my sidebar. Totally up to you whether you hit “play”, of course. 😉 I listened to these songs over and over again during the year it took me to write CREEP. If you’ve read the book, tell me if you think this soundtrack fits.
If you’re writing (or have written) a book, what’s on YOUR playlist?
Excellent playlist! Good music to write by. 😉
Yay! Lots of Cure on the list. I saw them live in concert *coughdecadesagocough.* Brilliant.
I, of course, have lots of U2 on my list. Some of their older, quieter stuff suits the mood of my novel, especially October.
Very cool!!! Love the playlist!!
Oh I love this list! Just saw the Pixies only a couple months ago.
I got an instrumental piano version of Creep on iTunes and I think of you when it comes up in my random mix. 🙂
Hah! Crazy timing. It's all about play lists today, eh? 🙂
My male POV was primarily driven by…
1) Alanis Morisette's Jagged Little Pill album
2) Marcy Playground's, well, everything
3) Blue October's Consent to Treatment, Foiled, and History for Sale albums
4) Morphone's Cure for Pain album
5) Tears for Fear's greatest hits
My female POV was primarily driven by…
1) Tom Petty's Wildflowers album
2) Pink Floyd's The Wall album
3) Pink Floyd's The Final Cut album
4) Our Lady Peace's Happiness is not A Fish You can Catch album
5) Beck's One Foot in the Grave album
Both were given some extra foundation from time to time with Inkuyo and Metallica, and pacing with Everlast and Japanese rap by Anty the Kunoichi or BB9.
Maybe it seems random, but there's meaning there, I swear it. lol
Depeche Mode…..PURRRRRRRR…fect.
The song you chose, as well as "In your room" and "I Feel You" have got Ethan Wolfe written ALLL over them. I hear the soundtrack during the movie "Creep" and start to tremble just thinking about the tension.
Okay, so I'm a little prejudiced. To answer your question, I've lost count of the times I've walked a field behind our house while listening to "Walking in My Shoes." It's one of two songs I use for inspiration.
"You stumble in my footsteps….." Sigh. I must be weird.
I has no playlist, but maybe for the next WIP I'll make one. I seem to be all for embracing different ways of keeping up the book love on my next go round; there will be collages and inspiration boards and playlists and post-its galore. Possibly I will also write some stuff.
Awesome playlist, Jennifer. I don't have a list of specific songs, but I have a Pandora station for this WIP. I call it Angry Girl Music. It's got Pink, Natasha Bedingfield, Sara Bareilles, Kelly Clarkson, with a little Paramore thrown in. With those as seeds, I get all sorts of awesome stuff (and some not-so, but I kill that as soon as I hear it).
I cannot listen to music while I actually write but there are definitely songs/bands that inspired. I've always thought musicians were like flash fiction experts…just with music added.
The last ms was definitely all Linkin Park, and especially 'The Divide'.
Current one is like an angry/angsty stew. A pinch of Pink, a large helping of Eminem, and a dash of Rhianna to name a few. Now I'm off to listen to your ENTIRE playlist.lol
Nice list! Anything with Joan Jett on it has a little bit of soul going! 🙂
I love your playlist! Great blend of songs. I may borrow a few for mine. At the moment, I have a lot of Niyaz mixed with Pillar's Frontline, TobyMac's Ignition, Muse's Uprising…can't tell I'm currently working on an apocalyptic/dystopian book, can you?
Oh my god, I love you. The Cure! The Smiths! Radiohead! TVU! Insta-win XD
The playlist alone would make me want to read your book haha.
I have a playlist for my WIP, it's an urban fantasy so I listen to a lot of Interpol, Patrick Wolf, Joy Division, The Kills, Bjork, ect.
I listen to all kinds of music while writing. I'll have to come back and listen to Creep, but I think I've heard it…
I tried to respond to your comment by email and it failed. Was going to tell you that there are several surprises in DH part 2. And definitely take tissues!!!
One more thing….I'm moving my blog to wordpress. This may direct you to it. If not, don't worry. I'll do a post.
Have a great week 🙂
That's it, I need to go to more concerts! I haven't seen any of these bands live. 🙁
Thanks for the comments, guys! Hope everybody's having a good weekend.
I must admit that I'm familiar with half of the songs, only… but yes! I think those totally fit! 🙂
You have some great songs on there! So far I just have one song that fits my WIP really well – "Let Go" by Frou Frou. You're inspiring me to create my own playlist. 🙂
Thank you, thank you, thank you for not setting it to Autoplay!
Great list! I really need to work on my playlist. I think it'll make writing time more fun.
