If you’re Canadian, and female, you might have found yourself leafing through an issue of Chatelaine magazine at some point in your life. I know I have… which is why it’s so crazy-amazing that CREEP was selected as one of Chatelaine’s “Summer’s Best Reads” picks in the July 2011 issue! I only found out a few days ago (yep, I’m totally late to the party as the August issue is already on newsstands), but I’m still freaking out. A few of my girlfriends back home have subscriptions to Chatelaine and they’ve offered to mail me their copies. I can’t wait to see the issue!
Speaking of good summer reads, I just finished two books which are not my usual fare: Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner and The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I totally enjoyed them both. I’m going a little bit nutso revising my next psychological thriller and would love to keep reading books outside my genre to maintain some sanity.
Got any good women’s fiction titles you can recommend?
Woo hoo! Congrats! I'd recommned THE MARK OF THE LION trilogy by Francine Rivers. Historical Roman times setting with Gladiators to boot, and a little romance for those who like it. Very good.
I haven't read the magazine in years (other than when I bought a copy to use for a character collage). 😀
I'm looking forward to read Creep. I just have to finish a bunch of new books I haven't read yet (some from last year). My kids won't let me buy anymore until I've read all the YA ones. (They don't know about the non YA ones on my iPod). 😉
You go, girl. That's awesome. =o)
It's not women's fiction, per se, but have you ever read By Myself by Lauren Bacall. It's her autobiography. Very uplifting and positive, and the love story between her and Bogie is so romantic. Of course, I cry every time because they weren't married long enough before he died. Still, the way she handles everything in her life just makes me feel good.
BIG congrats! Women's fiction? Um… Hunger Games probably doesn't count, right?
I'm not familiar with Chatelain, but how very awesome. And I'm not the least bit surprised they recommended your novel. 🙂
Oh, Jennifer, having just read Creep in a day, I'm not surprised at all. I loved your book. So much so that I ignored the beautiful weather here in Seattle last Saturday so I could sit inside & read it. Knowing what our weather's been like, you have to know that means something. It was a great read: fast, exciting, tense & twisty, and so very yummy. And now, I'm excited to hear you have another coming someday!
Thanks for the awesome book!
You know this is huge, right? The thing with Chatelaine magazines is that they have a crazy life span. They are read, then end up piling in waiting rooms of doctors and dentists. You got at least ten years of free publicity all across Canada.
WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!! That's awesome! I'd totally frame that page if I were you! 😀
OMG YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!! 😀
Congratulations! 🙂
That's really great. Congrats!
Have you read Water for Elephants? It's fantastic.
The cover looks so cool on the mag's page. Congrats!
I didn't like The Help so I'm thinking I shouldn't recommend books.
Thanks guys! And recommendations noted, so thank you again.
@Ben: That was my first thought. I don't think I've sat in a waiting room in Canada where there wasn't an issue of Chatelaine. 🙂
I'm so excited your book is mentioned.
You're the second person who mentioned The Help today. I still haven't read this book.
It's good to mix up all the reading. I still haven't read the Help…maybe on my vacation in August.
Oh and congrats on the great recommendation!
Woohoo!!! That's awesome!
Awesome news, Jennifer. Congratulations!!!
That's so exciting!
I just got my copy of CREEP today and I am so excited to start reading it!
(And I LOVED The Help, too!)
Oh my word that's awesome! Congrats. 😀
Congrats to you! Can't wait to read it!
WOWZA!. You are on fire, girl! 😀
Congratulations on CREEP, Jennifer!
I also read The Help this summer. Writing about such a subject must have been extremely challenging for Kathryn, but she carries is off beautifully.
Wow, Jenny! Congrats!
The accolades keep on coming, and rightfully so!
So happy for you.
