But no, I can’t show it to you just yet. (Yes, I’m a tease.) I’m still waiting on word as to whether the cover is 100% official, and I definitely don’t want to jinx it, or scare it away, because I’m so in love with it already. It really is perfect. It’s like the graphic designer/book cover designer/Genius Artist Person reached into my head and pulled out all the elements I’ve been dreaming about, but that I never in a million years would have known how to articulate into a graphic image.
Genius Artist Person, whoever you are, wherever you are: THANK YOU. You nailed it. I hope I get to keep it.
In other exciting news, my typeset pages arrived earlier this week from Simon & Schuster in a huge padded envelope. They’re very pretty, and very… thick. I have to read the whole manuscript over again and this time around, make corrections by hand in some kind of colored ink (as per the instructions). I have till February 2nd to complete this.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read my own book. Yes, it’s exciting, but sometimes I forget that it’s also work. (Very, very fulfilling work!)
Speaking of which, how many times have you read your book?
Congratulations on the cover and the pretty pages! Must make it feel very official (the colored ink sounds mysterious…). Can't wait to see the cover!
I have read my own book infinity times. Or maybe infinity plus one?
OOOOOOOOOOOH (stomping foot), you ARE a tease!! I was all excited for your cover. Then I didn't read your post, just looked at your picture and thought – THAT'S the cover she's excited about? CREEP in black on a blank white page? I mean, I guess the font is kind of cool? I can't wait to see the REAL cover!!
I've read my book more times than I count. At least ten times through. At least. I start to get paranoid that I'm going to miss something because it's so familiar to me now. You know when you start reading and just skip parts because you know what happens? Yeah, that.
I'm just happy you love the cover art. The wrong cover art can be a real heartbreak. And if my novel is ever bought, I expect to read it many, many times more than I have!
how exciting for you! And I'm so glad you love your cover art. I hope I'll love mine 🙂
Ooo! I can't wait to see the cover! I know what you mean about edits and reading the book again and again. I can't even tell you how often I read Arctic Winds. But the whole thing is so exciting knowing soon other people will be reading it too!
A tease to the MAX!!!! 🙂
Squee! So excited for you. Can't wait to see it!!
Hmmm… I have no idea how many times I've read my book, since sometimes I would read straight through while editing and a million other times I'd do edits of just certain parts. Probably at least a dozen though if you pieced it all together.
Oh my God I run over here to check it out because I was so freaking excited and you left me empty handed. I'm now depressed.
Side note: when you do decide to share I'd love to add you on my Must Haves tab!!!
Oh gosh!! I'm OOZING jealousy and joy for you!!!
I read a few posts over recent weeks about how little control the author has over things like artwork, and even the title. It's wonderful to hear some positive news there. Sooo happy for you!
Lost count of how many times I've read my own book. But it still manages to surprise me once in a while, when I read a scene as if for the first time. Do you ever get that?
Hey there!!! I'm so happy you <3 your cover!! I can't wait to see it!! REALLY!
When do you think you can share it?
I imagine it must be like seeing your baby's face for the first time! Right? Right?
How many times I've read my own book? Geez, I have NO idea 😛
It is exciting to see your cover for the first time. I love the covers of both of my middle grade novels. Can't wait to see it (when you can share, of course).
Okay, so I guess my post is kinda misleading, but I couldn't help it. If I could post the cover, I SO WOULD!
Botanist: I'm so past the point where I'm surprised by anything in the book. I've practically memorized it! Though it does help to read it hard copy in a completely new font.
Jen Daiker: I'll be taking you up on that offer, girlie! 🙂
Moni: I do feel like this book is my baby. I teared up when I saw my cover art. To see the story expressed in a visual way for the first time was just mind-blowing! (p.s. Your turn next!)
Thanks for the support, guys!
I've read my book to ad nauseum and beyond! So excited for you.
Wow, tree-based paper with colored ink. Welcome to the 1970s, S&S. In 2003, I made the case for typeset pages to be delivered as PDFs and the author could make comments using Acrobat. Saves time, shipping, time, money. I had to fill out three business cases for it before I finally got to do ONE title that way. I had to track the time saved (five days per pass) and money saved ($100 or so). A year later, everyone in the department did it that way. I'm still shocked when I see publishers holding on to old technology.
LOL, I just blogged about cover art (or more specifically my anxiety about it) on Monday. Sooo glad you like yours. 😉
And I'm getting my copy edits next week, which means I'll be reading my book for the umpteenth time too.
Maybe instead of ink, you should make your corrections in blood…?
This is awesome, so happy for you! But I want to see it!!!!!
Also, have read manuscripts more times than I can count.lol But I am sure it helps to read it printed out and in a dif font.
How exciting for you! Another step closer.
Good Luck!
If only I had my own book….
How exciting!
I hope the cover gets official and that we get to see it soon. 🙂
Can't wait to see the art; I'll be loading Creep onto Gizmo (my Kindle) as soon as it's available. February 2? Good thing you're a voracious reader! It takes me a while to get through a good novel, let alone my own stuff. =]
Thanks for the comments, guys!
Milo, you named your Kindle Gizmo? That's cute! I should think up a name for mine… after all, we do spend a lot of time together.
Congrats on the cover art! I can't wait to see it! 🙂
Oooo you rascal! Tricked. Hopefully we will get to see it soon.
Jennifer – I'm so giddy FOR you! I can feel your excitement!!! YAY!!! I hope you get to keep the cover, too. If not, I'm sure whatever remains will be awesome, too. Enjoy reading your novel!!! I can't wait to read it as well. =D
That has to be so incredibly surreal to look at those pages. Wow.
I have a hard time reading my current WIP. I have to read aloud at home so I am more conscious of what I am reading. It's very hard to focus when you have read something agazillion times. As I am sure you know.
Ooh, congratulations! I can't wait to see it too! 🙂
I'm about to start heavy editing, so I think the count may go up to a gazillion… 😀
Can't wait to see your cover! 🙂 (How many times have I read my own book? *bursts out to into crazed laughter*)
