Shhh. Come closer.
I don’t want to jinx myself, but…
I’m very, very close to the end of my first draft.
It’s wrapping up a lot faster than I thought, and thank God for that. Though I can’t get too excited since I’m going to have to go back through the book and fill in a bunch of plot holes. But the good news is I’m about a week away from having a beginning, middle and end of a Whole New Book. A sudden plot turn (which came in the form of a genuine Aha! moment earlier this week) tied a lot of things up, and I’m so grateful for that rare bit of inspiration that seemed to fall from the sky at just the right time. I blogged about this yesterday on Killer Chicks, and I can definitely say that this book has been 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.
Mind you, sudden inspiration comes with a lot of baggage, which means to sell this new plot twist (and avoid the dreaded deux ex machina), I’m going to have start weaving it in earlier. And that’s a lot of work.
I cannot tell you how relieved I am. Nothing quite matches the panic I feel the entire time I’m writing a first draft. It’s like I’m racing against myself, and trust me, I lose more than I win.
Anyway, enough about me. Guess who Joann is interviewing at Killer Chicks today?
