I admit it, I don’t read a lot of YA, but I am an unabashed fan of Suzanne Collins’ HUNGER GAMES trilogy. Count me in as one of the many fans eagerly awaiting the third book, MOCKINGJAY, which will be released on August 24th. Yes, I’ve pre-ordered it. And no, it can’t get here soon enough.
If you haven’t read this series, you are SO missing out. Don’t let the fact that you’re a grown-up and this is a YA book deter you. It’s a page-turner, with a strong plot and great, fully fleshed-out characters. Oh, and it’s chock full of great writing. My mother, who’s a super picky reader, read the first two books in two days. Steve, who’s a huge fan of Lee Child, loved the books, too.
Still not convinced? Here are even more reasons why the HUNGER GAMES trilogy should be added to your Must Read List:
- The hook: Battle Royale meets The Running Man… but with KIDS!
- Kick-ass female protagonist
- Post-apocalyptic dystopian setting
- A love triangle!
- Plenty of blood, gore, and violence
Read it read it read it. Then tell me what you think.
Yes yes yes yes yes! I'm so excited for Mockingjay, like, bouncing up and down squealing kind of excited! I'm totally loving Finnick, despite his weird outfits, but underneath I think I'm a constant Team Peeta. Ms Collins, if you read this, and you've killed Peeta, I will cry, and write you an angry letter.
I'm glad we share enthusiasm! 😀
I have yet to read the series *hangs head in shame* that is about to change. I see the pre-order date and everyone buzzing around the blog about it… kind of makes me feel like I'm the nerd in school, so to be less geeky I'm picking them all up!
I just recently jumped on The Hunger Games bandwagon and count me as one who's pre-ordered Mockingjay (on e-book). It's a super compelling story and I can't wait to see how she wraps it up!
I just started CATCHING FIRE yesterday; loving it. My wife also pre-ordered MOCKING JAY from Amazon, and she can't wait. Katniss is da bomb!
So much buzz
Maybe she'll be on the Forbes list of Top Earning Writers next year….
Top 3 this year: Patterson, Meyer, King
Caitlin: If Peeta gets killed, I will NOT be happy.
Jen: Read it read it read it! You won't be disappointed!
Joann: I pre-ordered online at B&N, but now I'm wishing I didn't and could just go the store and buy it on Tuesday. The book probably won't be delivered until Wed or Thurs.
Milo: Yay! My husband will be happy to know that other guys liked the books, too. He was very suspicious, too. I tricked him into reading TWILIGHT last year and he hasn't quite forgiven me.
JB: She might just be. The movie is in development for 2011.
I had to see what the fuss is all about. I just started reading Hunger Games this week.
Adam: Giving in is just so much easier. Hope you enjoy it!
Love, love, LOVE this series. I have Mockingjay preordered as well. I was late to the series (don't feel bad, Jen!). A friend pushed Hunger Games onto me one night. I made the mistake of opening it when I got into bed…and didn't go to sleep until the wee, wee hours of the morning. I was done in 24 hours. So I read it again! Then I went on a search for Catching Fire. Read that twice. Katniss rocks. Are you Team Peeta or Team Gabe? I'm a Peeta gal myself. The world Suzanne Collins has created is all that AND a box of See's chocolates (a 2lb box at that!)!!
I'm Team Torn. No, okay, if I had to pick, I'm Team Peeta. After reading the first book, it's hard NOT to be Team Peeta.
And yep, it definitely is all that and a box of chocolates! 🙂
It is hard not to be Team Peeta, but we haven't seen terribly much of Gale to know. Perhaps I'll be joining you on Team Torn after Mockingjay.
I have to admit even Haymitch grew on me. I was reading someone's blog a few weeks ago and they had done hypothetical casting for the movie. They had pegged Hugh Laurie as Haymitch, which wasn't what I pictured when reading the book but they made a good argument for – years of drinking had led him to look much older than he was and wasted his body away. Interesting argument.
It's so funny, I had always pictured "House" as Haymitch, right from the beginning! I think he'd play the part really well. I'll be interested to know who they cast.
Hmm…I just figured out what 'YA' meant. I saw it everywhere, and feared an undergrund cult was surfacing through electronic literature circles.
So, I am slow….
