I had intended to spend a good chunk of the weekend editing what I’ve got of the current WIP, but did I? Nope. Not unless I did it telepathically, while lying around on the sofa eating homemade nachos, watching UFC 118, and multiple episodes of Man v. Food. My brain just went ahead and shut itself off, without even asking me. The nerve!
But it’s the beginning of a brand new week, and Mondays are always a good day to start fresh. Lots to do this week, too. I’ll be rounding off the first “act” of my manuscript (and if I can do that well, it will set up acts two and three very nicely). I also have a new project that will be kicking off right after Labor Day, which I’m pretty excited about, because for once, this won’t be a solo effort. More on that this coming Friday, so stay tuned.
Whatcha got on your plate this week?
Good luck to you this week! As for me, I'll be back at work (after a much-appreciated summer break) prepping for the new school year. We have delightful staff meetings scheduled every day, and I must get my room + lesson plans ready for next week, when my jr. high angels will land en masse craving more wisdom and knowledge… And somehow, I'll pound out at least 500 words/day in my WiP.
A little time off can be a great thing and, OMG, homemade nachos sound delicious! You know what I'm working on this week (hint, hint, wink, wink, cough).
I had to tell you – I tried your sticky note idea and experienced something very cool. Instead of watching the word count at the bottom of my screen and doing my usual pause every 20 minutes or so to make sure I was adding correctly, I let the number on my sticky note keep track for me. I had no idea such a simple thing would free me up to write faster, but I made 1,700 words in under an hour. Seriously, that's a record! So, thank you for posting about that. 🙂
Did you try the salsa?
Milo: Hope you had a great summer! But teaching junior high sounds like a lot of fun. Glad to hear you'll still be getting in your 500 words/day.
Joann: (Cough cough wink.) The sticky note is such an old-school idea, I know, but I like knowing exactly what I'm shooting for. Sometimes, I get REALLY AMBITIOUS and actually write the WORD COUNT GOAL down too! Then it takes ALL the guess work out of knowing what I need to hit. I know, I know, no need to say it… I am pure GENIUS. LOL.
Dan: Yup, and it was good! Made guacamole, too.
